Sierra Leone agencies propose national safeguarding strategy for young athletes
The National Sports Authority (NSA) and the National Commission for Children (NCC) are collaborating to develop a national safeguarding strategy to protect young athletes in Sierra Leone. The initiative aims to strengthen child protection measures and ensure that children participating in sporting activities can do so in a safe environment that respects their rights and welfare.
During a meeting at the National Stadium, NCC Deputy Commissioner Henry Mustapha Sheku identified the NSA as a critical partner due to its oversight of youth sports. NSA Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, Esq. noted that the Authority has already developed internal policies for child protection and expressed readiness to work with the Commission to formalize a national policy. The partnership seeks to improve existing frameworks to create a more inclusive and secure sporting environment across the country.
