Sierra Leone Bar Association election voters list omits outgoing president

The provisional voters list for the upcoming Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) elections has excluded outgoing President Tuma Adama Gento-Kamara, former Public Relations Officer Alfred Kamanda, and other members of the previous executive.

The 429-member list was published by Caretaker Body Chairman Osman I. Kanu Esq. and follows a High Court order issued on 23 July 2026. According to the order, eligibility to vote and stand for office is restricted to members who paid their conference and subscription fees on or before 29 May 2026 and can provide original bank slips as proof.

Because this payment requirement applies to both voting and candidacy, the omission may prevent Gento-Kamara, who was seeking a second term, from participating in the election. Meanwhile, challenger Martina Baindu Egbenda appears on the list. Members have until 5:00 pm on Saturday, 24 October, to report errors or omissions at the Bar Secretariat before the final register is issued.
