Sierra Leone Bar Association sets election rules

The Caretaker Body of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) has issued strict eligibility and voting regulations for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections scheduled for Monday, 26 October 2026.

To qualify for participation, members must be fully paid-up, having settled all subscriptions and conference fees on or before 29 May 2026. Verification of eligibility requires the presentation of bank statements or bank payment slips; the Caretaker Body stated that no other forms of proof will be accepted.

The election process is designed to comply with a specific court order, though the exact terms of the order were not detailed in the notice. Only members whose eligibility is confirmed via the required documentation will be included on the final voters’ register. Voters must also present valid identification to cast their ballots.

Voting will be conducted via secret ballot, with each eligible member permitted one vote per contested position. Proxy voting is strictly prohibited. The proceedings will be overseen by authorized election officials, and accredited representatives of candidates will be allowed to observe the transparent counting of ballots.
