Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority Recognised at ICAO Gender Summit and Delivers Seamless ECOWAS Air Operations
Director General Musayeroh Barrie of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) was honoured at the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Global Aviation Gender Summit 2026 in Luanda, Angola. She was highlighted among Africa’s leading women in aviation for her role in strengthening Sierra Leone’s civil aviation sector. Barrie said, “I am honoured to be recognised among African women who are working to shape the future of the continent’s aviation industry.”
The SLCAA also successfully managed the complex air‑traffic requirements of the recent ECOWAS Summit hosted in Sierra Leone. The authority coordinated the arrival, departure and parking of roughly 30 presidential, diplomatic and official aircraft while keeping commercial flights on schedule. Preparatory work included road rehabilitation to improve airport access, inspections of aviation infrastructure, and the deployment of an advanced drone‑detection system at Freetown International Airport.
