Sierra Leone Education Minister advocates for girls' rights and access

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, has advocated for increased protection and equal educational opportunities for girls to ensure the nation’s future development. Speaking at the National Girls Summit 2026 in Kenema District, Sackey emphasized that empowering girls is a vital investment in human capital under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio.

The summit, themed ‘Our Power in Action; Protecting Our Future,’ included participation from United Nations Resident Coordinator Seraphine Wakana. Discussions focused on the necessity of removing barriers to education and protecting girls from violence, exploitation, discrimination, and harmful practices to create safe, inclusive learning environments.
