Sierra Leone farmers trained to boost cashew value chain
Eighty smallholder farmers from the Port Loko, Kambia, Tonkolili, and Bombali districts of Sierra Leone have been certified as Farmer Field School Facilitators. The training focused on enhancing cashew production and strengthening the nation’s cashew value chain.
Conducted by Solidaridad West Africa in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the initiative falls under the Developing an Inclusive and Sustainable Cashew Agroforestry Value Chain (DISCA-VC) Project. Supported by the European Union’s Jobs and Growth Programme, the program provided instruction in climate-smart agriculture, good agricultural practices, cashew agroforestry, and agribusiness.
The 80 certified facilitators are expected to transfer their knowledge to more than 300 other smallholder farmers through farmer-to-farmer learning and government extension services, aiming to increase productivity and farm resilience.
