Sierra Leone Foreign Minister Swaray pursues diplomatic expansion
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has initiated several diplomatic efforts to strengthen the nation’s international standing and economic interests.
During a visit to Riga, Swaray held talks with Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marking the first visit by a Sierra Leonean Foreign Minister to the Baltic States. The discussions focused on bilateral cooperation in peacebuilding, education, digital governance, and international law. Swaray also sought Latvia’s support for Professor Dr Charles Chernor Jalloh’s candidacy for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027–2036 term, a bid endorsed by the African Union and ECOWAS.
In a separate engagement, Swaray held a virtual meeting with Heads of Chancery from Sierra Leone’s overseas diplomatic missions. He outlined new priorities for the foreign service, emphasizing economic diplomacy, investment promotion, and accountability. The Minister instructed diplomatic missions to prioritize attracting international investment and partnerships to support national development goals.
