Sierra Leone hosts National Unity and Social Cohesion Conference

President Julius Maada Bio is set to deliver the keynote address at the National Unity and Social Cohesion Conference in Freetown. The two-day event, organized by the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), is held under the theme “From Commitment to Action: Rebuilding Trust, Strengthening National Unity and Advancing Social Cohesion.”

In a notable display of bipartisanship, former President and All People’s Congress (APC) leader Ernest Bai Koroma has confirmed his attendance. The conference aims to bring together political leaders, traditional authorities, religious leaders, civil society, and international partners to discuss conflict prevention, inclusion, and the rule of law.

A primary goal of the gathering is the production of the Freetown Declaration on National Unity and Social Cohesion 2026, which will provide actionable recommendations for government and citizens to strengthen national cohesion following recent political environments.
