Sierra Leone Implements Temporary Airport Security Measures for ECOWAS Summit

The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority has issued temporary security and traffic‑management arrangements for Freetown International Airport in Lungi from 17 – 19 July 2026, coinciding with the ECOWAS summit. All commercial flights will continue to operate, but access to the terminal is limited to passengers with valid travel documents and authorised airport staff; accompanying greeters are prohibited.

Travelers using water‑taxi services must follow designated routes, while those arriving by ferry or road are to assemble at the old terminal and use shuttle buses to reach the main terminal. Cargo received during the three‑day period will be stored securely and will only be released on 20 July. Passengers are advised to allow extra travel time and cooperate with security personnel. Normal airport procedures will resume after the summit ends.
