Sierra Leone Judiciary approves live broadcast of Supreme Court hearing

The Sierra Leone Judiciary has approved the live broadcast of an upcoming Supreme Court constitutional hearing scheduled for October 7, 2026. The decision follows a request from the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) to ensure public access to proceedings of national importance.

Under the approved terms, ten media houses will be accredited to report from inside the courtroom. Additionally, the Independent Radio Network (IRN) has been authorized to broadcast the hearing across more than 40 radio stations nationwide. To maintain courtroom decorum, the Judiciary has prohibited still photography inside the courtroom and mandated that media outlets refrain from providing commentary or analysis on the merits of the case while the matter remains sub judice.
