Sierra Leone maintains fuel subsidies and launches National Petroleum Company
The Government of Sierra Leone has confirmed that fuel supplies remain adequate and pump prices will stay unchanged despite rising global oil costs. To prevent spikes in transport and food prices, the government is maintaining partial subsidies on petrol and diesel. Petrol is currently priced at NLe40.00 per litre and diesel at NLe45.00 per litre, while the actual market prices are higher at NLe41.80 and NLe47.89, respectively.
In a separate development regarding energy infrastructure, the Sierra Leone National Petroleum Company Limited (SLNPC) held its inaugural board meeting to establish its governance and commercial agenda. Chaired by Foday B. L. Mansaray II, the meeting focused on the company’s mandate to increase national participation in the oil and gas sector through trading, investing, and developing logistics infrastructure. The SLNPC aims to strengthen national energy security by exploring strategic petroleum reserves to mitigate supply disruptions and price volatility.
