Sierra Leone man arrested for allegedly posing as lawyer for five years

A man has been arrested at the Waterloo Magistrate’s Court in Sierra Leone for allegedly posing as a qualified lawyer for approximately five years. The arrest occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026, after the suspect appeared before Magistrate Shaka P. Kamara to apply for bail on behalf of a client.

During the proceedings, the individual reportedly received NLe 10,000 in connection with the matter. His credentials were questioned by Barrister Abdul A. Kamara, during which the suspect allegedly admitted to presenting himself as a legal practitioner for five years and claimed association with Glorious Chamber. The suspect reportedly stated he had represented various clients across different parts of Sierra Leone.

The individual has been handed over to the Sierra Leone Police for investigation. Under the Legal Practitioners Act, impersonating a lawyer or practicing without qualification is a criminal offense. Authorities are investigating the extent of the alleged fraud and whether other members of the public were misled by his services.
