Sierra Leone Minister calls for Africa-China media partnership

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has advocated for enhanced cooperation between Africa and China within the media and audiovisual sectors. Speaking at the 7th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Radio, Television and Audiovisual Services in China, Bah emphasized that development must extend beyond technology and infrastructure to include investments in people, institutions, and professional capacity.

Minister Bah noted that the future of audiovisual communication depends on the strength of media institutions, the responsible use of emerging technologies, and the ability of Africans to control their own narratives. He highlighted that Sierra Leone views access to credible information as a vital component of national development and human capital growth.

Furthermore, Bah explained that the evolution of Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Information into the Ministry of Information and Civic Education underscores the government's goal of providing citizens with the knowledge and civic awareness necessary for meaningful participation in national development.
