Sierra Leone Minister discusses labor laws and Indian investment
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, is leading efforts to implement Section 25 of the Employment Act 2023, which mandates end-of-service benefits. During recent engagements with the Sierra Leone Labour Congress and the Sierra Leone Employers’ Federation, Koroma emphasized that while the law is non-negotiable, the enforcement process will be consultative to protect both workers and business sustainability.
To facilitate this, Smart Systems (SL) Ltd unveiled a new digital platform designed to automate liability calculations and integrate employers, employees, trustees, and fund managers into a single system.
Separately, Minister Koroma traveled to Jaipur, India, to promote economic partnerships. During high-level business meetings, he encouraged Indian investors to explore opportunities in Sierra Leone’s mining, agriculture, and trade sectors, stressing that foreign investment should drive technology transfer and job creation for local citizens.
