Sierra Leone National Revenue Authority warns of enforcement for tax arrears
The National Revenue Authority (NRA) of Sierra Leone has issued warnings to taxpayers regarding outstanding obligations, threatening strict enforcement measures for non-compliance.
In a public notice, the NRA warned that businesses and license holders—including mining companies, internet service providers, and media stations—could face the sealing of premises, garnishment of bank accounts, and travel restrictions if they fail to settle unpaid tax and non-tax revenue liabilities. The authority reminded taxpayers to adhere to statutory deadlines for Goods and Services Tax (GST), Corporate Income Tax, and withholding taxes.
This enforcement push follows criticism from Hon. Keikura Vandi, Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee. Vandi challenged the NRA to improve accountability and revenue mobilisation, noting that outstanding tax liabilities reached approximately Le575.631 billion. He expressed concern over the lack of feedback from the NRA regarding the recovery of debts from taxpayers previously identified by Parliament.
