Sierra Leone political parties pledge census cooperation amid 2028 election polling
Sierra Leone’s major political parties, the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), have pledged to cooperate to ensure the success of the 2026 Population and Housing Census. During a training ceremony in Freetown, APC Chairman Leonard Balogun Koroma stated the party intends to support the exercise rather than sabotage it, calling for transparent communication from Statistics Sierra Leone to build public confidence.
Separately, a report from the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) has highlighted the early landscape for the 2028 presidential elections. The survey indicates that Mohamed Omodu Kamara (Jagaban) is a leading contender within the APC, while First Lady Fatima Bio is a prominent figure in the SLPP flagbearer race. The IGR findings, based on surveys of delegates and likely voters, suggest intensifying political activity within both parties as they prepare for future internal contests.
