Sierra Leone President Julius Bio Unveils Year of Action, Supports Kent Port

President Julius Maada Bio opened the Fourth Session of the Sixth Parliament on August 7, presenting a "Year of Action and Accelerated Delivery" agenda. The plan emphasizes faster public‑service delivery, job creation, lower living costs, stronger institutions and national unity, urging ministries and opposition MPs to cooperate for measurable results.

In the same statements, Bio praised progress on the Gento Group's Kent Port project in Kent Village. The $70 million seaport, intended to ease congestion at Freetown’s Queen Elizabeth II Quay, is expected to boost the economy and create jobs. The government has pledged $20 million in counterpart funding, though the money has not yet been disbursed. Bio highlighted transparency and the project's role in Sierra Leone’s broader economic transformation.
