Sierra Leone sports associations launch regional development initiatives
Sports organizations in Sierra Leone are launching initiatives to expand athletic infrastructure and training across the country.
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has signed tripartite agreements to implement the FIFA Arena Project in selected schools. This pilot initiative involves the construction of mini-pitches to foster grassroots football development. Bo School and Albert Academy Secondary School have been identified as the first beneficiaries. Under this arrangement, FIFA provides construction materials and technical expertise, while the schools provide the necessary space and commitment to maintain the facilities.
Simultaneously, the Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) is working to decentralize boxing beyond the capital, Freetown. The SLBA recently donated modern boxing equipment to the Southern and Eastern regions and organized training sessions for local coaches. This regional development effort, supported by the National Sports Authority (NSA), aims to produce elite boxers for international competition through improved access to resources and capacity-building workshops.
