Sierra Leonean leaders promote women's empowerment and food security

Sierra Leonean First Lady Fatima Maada Bio has called on African leaders to recognize women and girls as essential drivers of peace, resilience, and sustainable development. Speaking in Dakar, Senegal, during the launch of the Building Resilience Campaign, she argued that women must be central to decision-making processes regarding climate change, security, and economic opportunity rather than being viewed solely as victims of crises.

In a separate domestic development, President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Bio participated in the rice harvest at a military-managed farm in the Moyamba District. The harvest covers more than 4,000 acres and is part of the government’s ‘Feed Salone Agenda,’ an initiative designed to strengthen national food security and boost domestic production through the involvement of various sectors, including the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.
