Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta coffee growers face massive losses

The Personería Municipal de Ciénaga has issued an urgent alert regarding a severe labor shortage affecting coffee harvesters in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta region. This shortage threatens hundreds of hectares of coffee crops, putting the livelihoods of numerous farming families at risk.

Local authorities have formally requested intervention from the Gobernación del Magdalena to coordinate measures to address this agricultural contingency. The agency emphasized that farmers are entitled to special constitutional protection in Colombia and require state support to ensure a dignified harvest.
