Sierrallana Hospital modernization plan to include 330-bed unit

Cantabria's Health Counselor, César Pascual, has confirmed that the Sierrallana Hospital modernization plan includes the construction of a new unit with 300 to 350 beds. The project aims to adapt the facility to the demographic needs of the region, which faces a population where 26% are over 64 and 35% are over 74.

The new unit is intended to transform the facility into a networked area hospital in coordination with Valdecilla, focusing on increased resolution capacity, outpatient surgery, day hospitalization, and telemedicine. Current rooms were noted to lack adequate habitability; the new units will be individual, some convertible to doubles, and will include beds for companions.

The first phase of the modernization plan is expected to be awarded before the end of the current legislature. Subsequent phases involve a substantial reform of the existing building, with an initial technical material execution budget estimated at 49 million euros (excluding VAT).
