Former PASOK minister Sifis Valyrakis was found dead on 24 January 2021 in the sea area of Eratria, Greece. Two brothers who were fishing nearby have been charged with intentional homicide. Both defendants have repeatedly asserted their innocence, stating that they did not go fishing on the day of the death and spent the day at home.

During the proceedings the defence introduced a video recorded on 25 January 2021 that shows the brothers’ boat moored with its nets spread. The victim’s family, represented by lawyer Nikos Konstantopoulos, challenged the video’s authenticity and suggested possible artificial‑intelligence manipulation. The prosecution’s key witness identified the taller brother as the person seen striking Valyrakis with a pole. The court will hear the prosecutor’s recommendation on 8 September, and the hearings have been marked by sharp exchanges between the defence and the family’s lawyers.
