Sifnos helicopter crash investigation focuses on prior Paros incident
Investigators are examining a potential link between a June 1st incident in Paros and the fatal helicopter crash in Sifnos that killed three people on August 18th.
During the June incident, the helicopter's main rotor had been secured with straps to protect it from strong winds. However, when the pilot restarted the aircraft, the straps were reportedly not fully removed, causing them to strike the rear of the helicopter. Following this event, the aircraft underwent maintenance and received a certificate of airworthiness from the Civil Aviation Authority on July 2nd.
Authorities are now investigating whether the June incident caused undetected strain or damage to the tail rotor. A police-appointed committee is scheduled to conduct an inspection on Sifnos, after which the wreckage will be recovered and transported to Athens for detailed technical examination.
