Sifnos helicopter crash kills British honeymooners and pilot

A private Bell 206 helicopter crashed on the Greek island of Sifnos, killing all three people on board. The victims have been identified as a British newlywed couple, Alexander Cromie and Marie Ebert, and their Greek pilot, Giorgos Raikos. The couple was traveling from near Athens to Sifnos for their honeymoon when the aircraft lost control and burst into flames near a helipad in the Tholos area.

Witnesses reported hearing an unusual, loud noise similar to a military aircraft just before the crash. Surveillance footage shows the helicopter spinning and losing altitude rapidly before impact. Authorities are currently investigating two primary theories: a mechanical failure, specifically involving the tail rotor, or a sudden medical emergency affecting the pilot.

The Hellenic National Aviation Safety Investigation and Accident Investigation Authority has launched a formal inquiry. Forensic teams and specialized police units are examining the wreckage, and autopsies are being conducted to confirm the exact causes of death.
