Sifonbruggen in Damme to close for repairs through late 2026

Vlaamse Waterweg nv has announced that the Sifonbruggen, which cross the Afleidingskanaal van de Leie and the Leopoldkanaal in Damme, will be closed to all traffic from September 7 to December 31, 2026. The closure affects all vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The project involves renewing the bridge railings following significant damage caused by a vehicle in February 2025. To ensure a secure installation, experts determined that the concrete structure must be modified. This process involves removing a 30-centimeter wide section of the concrete edge and drilling additional reinforcement bars into the bridge to create a new, sturdy foundation for the new railings.

Work will be conducted in phases on both bridges simultaneously to minimize the duration of the water crossing interruption. During this period, all traffic will be diverted.
