SIG Group expands Recycle for Good program to combat marine litter

SIG Group and its partners are expanding the ‘Recycle for Good – Prevent Marine Litter’ program across Indonesia to combat packaging waste in oceans. The initiative aims to strengthen waste management systems by improving sorting, collection, and recycling processes.

Previously focused on the Jakarta area, the program has expanded to Surabaya, Malang, West Nusa Tenggara, and Bali. The project has been implemented in 389 locations, involving a network of schools, communities, cafes, businesses, religious institutions, and waste collectors. By connecting community-level collection with formal recycling channels, the program seeks to increase material recovery and support the livelihoods of those within the recycling ecosystem.

The regional project is supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, alongside partners including Plastic Bank, the Wuppertal Institute, and Decision Context. Similar efforts to minimize marine litter are also being conducted in Thailand and the Philippines.
