Sig Sauer Wins Jury Verdict in Detective Lawsuit

A federal jury in Bangor, Maine, ruled that New Hampshire‑based gunmaker Sig Sauer was not negligent, did not fail to warn, and sold a non‑defective P320 pistol in the lawsuit filed by Somerset County Detective David Cole. The verdict means no damages were awarded to Cole and his wife, Kimberly Cole.

The case stemmed from an incident in which the detective’s service weapon unintentionally fired from its holster, striking his leg. Judge John C. Nivison had earlier dismissed the plaintiff’s claim of fraudulent concealment. Both the plaintiff’s attorney, Michael Bigos, and a Sig Sauer spokesperson declined to comment on the verdict.
