Sigall International Music Contest celebrates 50th anniversary in Viña del Mar

The 50th edition of the Sigall International Music Performance Contest is taking place in Viña del Mar, Chile, from October 4 to October 9. This anniversary edition focuses on singing, featuring eight contestants from seven different countries.

The event officially commenced with an inaugural concert at the Viña del Mar Municipal Theater, performed by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Jesús Rodríguez. The opening program included works by Felix Mendelssohn, Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and Chilean composer Tomás Brantmayer.

Sponsored by the PUCV, the competition includes musical performances, educational activities, and community engagement sessions. The program also features the Chilean work ‘La Tumba de los Signos’, composed specifically for this edition by Tomás Brantmayer.
