Sigenergy expands into utility-scale energy storage
Sigenergy has announced a strategic expansion of its energy storage operations, moving beyond residential solutions into commercial, industrial (C&I), and utility-scale applications. The company detailed this growth strategy during Sigenergy Day Europe 2026 in Stuttgart.
A primary example of this strategy is the Weissach im Tal solar-plus-storage project in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The project, which entered commercial operation in August 2026, combines 11.6 MWp of solar generation with approximately 20 MWh of battery storage. Developed by Arausol and owned by DGS GmbH, the system utilizes a decentralized SigenStack architecture.
The installation features 1,660 Sigenergy battery modules and 80 Sigen C&I PV inverters. By installing modular units beneath PV mounting structures rather than in traditional containers, the project minimized land use and cabling complexity. The use of DC coupling in this configuration avoids intermediate AC conversion, which reportedly provides a 3% to 4% increase in overall energy yield.
