Sigfrido Ranucci bombing investigation: suspects claim staged event
The investigation into the October 2025 bombing at the home of Report host Sigfrido Ranucci has reached a critical stage. Suspected mastermind Valter Lavitola was arrested in August 2026. Two of the four material executors, Pellegrino D’Avino and Antonio Passariello, have begun cooperating with prosecutors at Rebibbia prison. They admitted to placing the explosive under Ranucci's vehicle but claimed they were misled into believing the entire operation was a staged event and would not cause harm.
The suspects identified an intermediary, Gomes Clesio Tavares, who is reportedly located in Cameroon. Tavares has denied being a fugitive and maintains he is a business partner of Lavitola.
Simultaneously, Ranucci faces professional uncertainty at Rai. The broadcaster is reportedly considering relocating him to other roles, such as Tg3 or Rainews, following controversies regarding his professional conduct. These include allegations of sharing confidential company emails with Lavitola and public statements, such as his remark about being willing to dine with mafia boss Totò Riina, which have drawn criticism from political figures and media commentators.
