Siglo 21–UCNE Congress addresses comprehensive cancer care
The IX Siglo 21–UCNE International Congress concluded in San Francisco de Macorís, bringing together 73 national and international specialists to address challenges in cancer care. Organized by the Centro Médico Docente Siglo 21 and the Universidad Católica Nordestana (UCNE), the three-day event focused on the full spectrum of oncological attention.
Scientific sessions covered prevention, early diagnosis, specialized treatments, and palliative care. Key topics included the use of biomarkers, breast cancer detection, hereditary oncological diseases, nutritional support, and reconstructive interventions. The congress also emphasized the role of nursing staff in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and the necessity of interdisciplinary coordination.
Beyond clinical aspects, the event addressed the human dimension of the disease. Panels explored the psychological and social consequences of cancer, featuring contributions from clinical psychologists, oncological surgeons, and cancer survivors.
