Sigma announces 50mm F1.4 CL DG | Contemporary lens

Sigma has announced the release of the 50mm F1.4 CL DG | Contemporary, a compact full-frame prime lens designed for Sony E and Leica L mounts. The lens features an all-metal construction and is designed to emulate the rendering character of classic optics, offering soft peripheral bokeh alongside modern central sharpness.

Technically, the lens utilizes a Rotary Direct Drive (RDD) autofocus system. This whole-lens focusing mechanism uses circular coils and magnets to minimize the lens's outer diameter, though it is noted to be slower than STM or HLA systems, making it better suited for photography than video. The optical design includes nine elements in six groups, featuring one FLD and three aspherical elements, and 14 aperture blades.

The lens weighs approximately 375 grams and measures roughly 64.7 x 54 mm. It includes physical rings for manual focus and aperture adjustment, along with depth-of-field and distance scales. It is currently available for pre-order.
