Sigma Nu fraternity chapters suspended following hazing allegations
Sigma Nu fraternity chapters at North Carolina State University and the University of Colorado Boulder have faced suspensions following allegations of hazing.
At NC State, the Beta Tau chapter has been suspended after the university found the organization violated student conduct codes. The NC State University Police are currently conducting a criminal investigation into the matter. The Sigma Nu national organization stated that the fraternity was founded in opposition to hazing and confirmed that activities at the Beta Tau chapter are suspended pending the investigation.
At CU Boulder, more than 100 members were suspended following a violent hazing incident involving 45 pledges. Reports indicate that pledges were instructed to strip to their underwear and fight in a basement, resulting in one hospitalization. A former board member claimed the incident was the worst investigated by the national fraternity. Sigma Nu communications officials confirmed members were found responsible for hazing and remain suspended pending ongoing disciplinary procedures.
