Sigma supermarket in Castellarano set to reopen after Realco bankruptcy

The Sigma supermarket on Via Chiaviche in Castellarano, Italy, is preparing to reopen following the collapse of the Realco retail group, which affected more than 1,500 workers and over 140 stores across Emilia‑Romagna. The store’s future was secured through an acquisition approved by the Bologna Tribunal during the bankruptcy proceedings.

Local entrepreneurs and several store employees collaborated on the deal, and Mayor Giorgio Zanni personally intervened to preserve the neighbourhood shop and the jobs it provides. The new operators plan to complete technical preparations, restock shelves and announce an official opening ceremony that is being promoted as a community celebration.
