Sign language used in Spanish musical performances to promote inclusion

Musical performances in Spain have highlighted themes of inclusion and accessibility through the use of sign language.

The Son das Flores orchestra, a group comprising 75 children from over 17 different nationalities, performed at the Auditorio Mar de Vigo during the X Foro de Educación de FARO. The performance included sign language interpretation for the song ‘Xardín Cantareiro’ to ensure the message was accessible to all.

In a separate instance of musical inclusion, a contestant named Leticia from León participated in the television program ‘La Voz’. She performed the song ‘Ojalá’ while incorporating sign language, a decision motivated by her desire to include her deaf parents in the experience. Her performance led coaches Pablo López and Mika to turn their chairs, with Leticia ultimately choosing to join Pablo López’s team.
