Signus manages 230,000 tonnes of used tyres in 2025, boosting Spain's circular economy

The integrated tyre‑waste management system SIGNUS reported handling 230,901 tonnes of end‑of‑life tyres in 2025, equivalent to more than 28 million tyres – enough to travel roughly 18,000 km. This volume is 5.5 % above the obligations set by the new Real Decreto 712/2025, which redefines extended producer responsibility for tyres in Spain.

During the year SIGNUS coordinated 116,959 collection operations across about 26,000 generation points, serving 25,758 workshops and other sites. Of the total, 198,000 tonnes were recovered for recycling and valorisation: over 110,000 tonnes were granulated for rubber, steel and textile reuse; around 81,000 tonnes went to cement production; more than 4,000 tonnes were processed by pyrolysis; 3,100 tonnes generated electricity; and smaller amounts were used in civil works and protective barriers. The organisation achieved a 12.2 % preparation rate for reuse, 51.1 % material recycling and 36.7 % energy recovery.

Andalusia (43,668 t), Catalonia (30,610 t) and Madrid (22,894 t) were the regions with the highest tyre collections. SIGNUS also launched a new association of tyre producers and a strategic valuation plan to expand the market for recovered materials, supporting applications such as sports fields, road pavements and construction products.
