Sigtunaskolan students detained in criminal investigation
Three students at Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket (SSHL) in Sigtuna have been detained following investigations into serious crimes allegedly committed against younger students. The suspects are accused of offenses including gross sexual harassment, gross unlawful coercion, unlawful threats, and gross assault.
According to prosecutors, the incidents occurred during different periods between August and October. While two male students aged 18 were detained earlier, a third student was subsequently detained by the court of appeal to prevent the potential destruction of evidence. Both prosecutors and defense lawyers have noted that the incidents may be linked to a school culture where older students exert control over younger ones.
Sofia Kinberg, CEO and head of the school, issued a statement asserting that tradition cannot be used as an excuse for abusive behavior and that the school supports students who report violations. The school, which hosts approximately 600 students including 220 boarders, is currently managing a tense atmosphere as students and staff process the developments.
