Siguirini municipal councilors announce mass resignation

Fourteen municipal councilors from the urban commune of Siguirini, located in the Siguiri administrative region, have announced their collective resignation in a letter addressed to the mayor dated November 3, 2026.

The councilors, who were elected during the May 31, 2026, local elections, cited major malfunctions and a lack of satisfactory responses to their grievances regarding the installation and operation of the communal executive. They stated that they had previously attempted to resolve these issues through various administrative, judicial, and institutional channels.

According to the resignees, these efforts included filing multiple appeals with the Siguiri Court of First Instance, requesting the Prefect of Siguiri to annul the session concerning the installation of the communal executive, and submitting a memorandum to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization on July 10, 2026. Despite these actions, the councilors described the situation as an impasse, noting that their concerns remain unaddressed.
