Siheung City begins high-quality rice harvest
Siheung City has begun the official harvest of its high-quality Siheung rice. Despite challenges such as abnormal climate conditions and rising costs of farming materials, the current crop condition is reported to be above average.
Projections indicate that rice production this year will increase by approximately 4% compared to last year. To ensure stable production, the city conducted three rounds of aerial pest control across its 790-hectare rice cultivation area and operated three regional observation plots to monitor pest trends.
The Siheung Agricultural Technology Center has been providing field-based technical guidance to mitigate issues like sudden pest outbreaks and premature germination caused by climate change. Additionally, the city is conducting field trials to replace foreign rice varieties with domestic, climate-resilient varieties that are better suited to the local environment.
