Siheung City selects 20 winners for 2026 Citizen Awards

Siheung City has selected 20 individuals to receive the ‘2026 Siheung City Citizen Award,’ the city’s highest honor for those who have contributed to community development and social service. An awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 23 at the Siheung Arts Center.

In a significant change from previous years, the city expanded the number of award recipients from three to 20 to better recognize a broader range of contributions from citizens working across various sectors. The selection process involved 33 nominees, who were evaluated by a merit review committee composed of local community leaders.

City officials noted a shift in the nomination process, observing an increase in direct citizen participation through joint petitions, moving beyond traditional recommendations from department heads or local officials. Kim Jae-seong, Director of the Siheung City Administration Bureau, stated that the expansion aims to discover ‘hidden heroes’ of the community and encourage broader civic engagement.
