Siirt hosts pistachio festival amid 32,000-ton yield forecast

The Siirt Pistachio Nature and Culture Festival has commenced in Siirt, Turkey, to promote the region's natural, cultural, and agricultural assets. During the opening ceremony, Governor and Deputy Mayor Dr. Kemal Kızılkaya emphasized the goal of transforming the geographically indicated Siirt pistachio into a global brand.

According to data from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, the expected pistachio yield for this year is approximately 32,000 tons. This production is projected to contribute roughly 35 billion lira to the local economy, with the broader sector potentially contributing up to 50 billion lira. Currently, production occurs across 409,352 decares of land. Officials aim to increase production to 50,000 tons through irrigation investments and modern agricultural techniques.

Festival activities include a parade, exhibitions of local products, folk dance performances, and an awards ceremony. The event also features discussions on orchard management and a ceremonial pistachio harvest in the Botan Valley.
