Sikandar Siddique to be removed from Copenhagen City Council

A majority in the Copenhagen City Council intends to remove Sikandar Siddique, leader of the Frie Grønne party, from his seat following a ruling on his residency status. The decision follows a conclusion that Siddique was not eligible to run in the last municipal election because he did not reside within the municipality.

Political parties including Enhedslisten, Konservative, Venstre, and Socialdemokratiet have confirmed they will vote for his removal. While the Socialdemokratiet supports his exit to resolve the matter, they do not intend to pursue the repayment of his salary. Conversely, representatives from Venstre have suggested investigating whether the municipality should reclaim the compensation Siddique received for his time in office.

Siddique has responded to the ruling by claiming the situation is a consequence of his political stance. He stated that the pressure is a result of his party’s willingness to challenge the system and criticize Zionist influence, suggesting the investigation is a reaction to his political views.
