Sikar municipal elections see high turnout and fraud allegations
Municipal elections in the Sikar region of Rajasthan have proceeded with varying levels of turnout and incident reports. In Chhoti Sadri, the election concluded peacefully with an 83.29 percent voter turnout across 25 wards. Out of 14,670 total voters, 12,218 cast their ballots for 58 candidates.
In the Sikar Nagar Parishad, voting continued for 64 out of 65 wards. By 3:00 PM, the recorded turnout was 57.47 percent. The process in Sikar faced disruptions due to allegations of fraudulent voting, leading to several arrests. Police detained individuals including the son of a Congress candidate in Ward 18, two female voters, a young man at the Balika Adarsh Vidya Mandir booth, and the brother-in-law of a BJP candidate in Ward 6.
Security remained high in both areas, with officials monitoring sensitive polling stations and taking action against vehicles without license plates to maintain order during the voting process.
