Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo kicks off 74th edition with new president and anthem debut

Cody Jones, a Sikeston native and longtime Jaycee volunteer, was elected president of the 74th annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo. In his new role he oversees the planning and execution of the event that draws thousands of visitors and generates proceeds for local charities.

The opening ceremony featured 14‑year‑old London Gill, a Cape Central High School freshman, who sang the U.S. national anthem before the large crowd, marking a personal milestone and adding to the community celebration.

Both the leadership change and the anthem performance highlight the rodeo’s role as a major cultural gathering that supports community projects throughout southeast Missouri.
