Indian states Telangana and Tripura announce Dearness Allowance hikes

Several Indian state governments have announced increases to Dearness Allowance (DA) and House Rent Allowance (HRA) for government employees and pensioners.

In Telangana, the state government has sanctioned two pending DA installments, raising the cumulative rate by 6.37 percentage points. This adjustment increases the DA from 33.67% to 37.31% effective January 1, 2024, and further to 40.04% effective July 1, 2024. The decision is expected to benefit approximately 6.91 lakh individuals and will add an estimated ₹3,057 crore to the state's annual financial burden. Arrears will be paid in installments, with some amounts credited to General Provident Fund (GPF) or Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) accounts.

In Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced a 3% hike in DA, bringing the total allowance to 44%. Additionally, the HRA for regular employees has been increased from 8% to 10% of basic pay, capped at ₹10,000 per month. These changes are effective from October 1, 2026, and are estimated to cost the state approximately ₹300 crore annually.
