A delegation from Sikkim is visiting Nagaland to study the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) as a potential model for its own state health program. The Nagaland scheme has registered approximately 64,000 beneficiaries and disbursed roughly Rs 252 crore for medical treatments over the last four years. The network includes more than 70 empanelled hospitals across India, including facilities in Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati.
While the scheme has expanded its hospital network and increased reimbursement rates to improve coverage, Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister Paiwang Konyak recently informed the State Assembly that twelve hospitals have been flagged for irregularities. Six hospitals were identified under the CMHIS and six others under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). The minister stated that action has been taken against the involved facilities, noting that while patients may pay for expenses not covered by specific packages, they cannot be charged beyond approved rates arbitrarily.
