Sila Greca infrastructure concerns raised in Bocchigliero meeting

A roundtable discussion held in Bocchigliero addressed the critical state of infrastructure and road safety in the Sila Greca region of Calabria. Organized by Fillea CGIL, CGIL Cosenza, and the Longobucco Labor Chamber, the meeting focused on how inadequate transportation networks impact essential services such as healthcare, education, and employment.

Key topics included the progress of the Ortiano II viaduct, which collapsed in 2023, and the long-delayed Sila-Mare project. While the Sila-Mare is a strategic link between the inland Sila areas and the coast, local leaders emphasized that the project cannot succeed in isolation. There is an urgent need for safe and functional provincial roads to connect these communities to the main artery.

Bocchigliero Mayor Alfonso Benevento highlighted the deficiencies of provincial road 255, noting that current funding is insufficient to complete necessary safety improvements for a ten-kilometer stretch. Improving this connection to the Ortiano II viaduct is seen as vital for allowing residents to reach the coast in approximately thirty minutes.
