Silal Group to expand UAE blueberry production by 50 hectares
Silal Group, a UAE-based agri-food and technology company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ayla Berries, the exclusive Middle Eastern agent for IQ Berries, to expand blueberry cultivation in the United Arab Emirates. The project aims to develop 50 hectares of planted area using specific blueberry varieties designed to thrive in local climatic conditions.
The agreement provides Silal with exclusive access to premium genetics and varieties, including MegaEarly and MegaCrisp. These self-pollinating varieties were selected for their ability to maintain fruit quality, firmness, and shelf life in warm climates and under standard cold-storage conditions.
Implementation is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first commercial harvest expected in 2028. The project aims to reach full targeted capacity by 2030. This initiative is intended to strengthen regional food security, improve agricultural productivity, and ensure a consistent supply of locally grown produce for UAE and regional markets.
