Silas expresses pessimism over Brazil's World Cup future

Former Brazilian midfielder Silas expressed pessimism regarding the future of the Brazil national football team, stating he does not believe the country will ever win another World Cup title.

Speaking on ESPN Argentina, the former player, who competed in the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, identified the development of young players as the primary issue. He criticized the current trend in the Brazilian league, where clubs are permitted to have up to nine foreign players on the field at once. Silas cited Grêmio as an example, noting the high number of foreign athletes and arguing that this trend blocks the development of emerging local talent.

Silas also noted a decline in the quality of Brazilian full-backs compared to previous eras. While discussing the national team's current phase, he declined to blame coach Carlo Ancelotti, describing him as an ‘incredible’ professional. Regarding Vinícius Júnior, Silas characterized him as an ‘excellent player’ who has learned how to succeed at Real Madrid.
