Silas Malafaia to step down from organizing September 7 protests

Pastor Silas Malafaia announced that he will not organize the September 7, 2026, demonstration on Avenida Paulista in São Paulo, ending a five-year streak of leading such events. Malafaia clarified that his previous involvement in organizing these protests was done at the request of Jair Bolsonaro.

While Malafaia is not organizing the event, he denied that he is attempting to distance himself from the movement. He stated, “I don't want to maintain a certain distance from the act. I did the events at the request of (Jair) Bolsonaro. I am not a politician.” He further noted that he has no direct connection to the Liberal Party (PL), which is organizing this year's demonstration.

The PL has already requested the reservation of Avenida Paulista from the São Paulo city government for the event, which is expected to run from 10:00 to 20:00. The party anticipates an attendance of approximately 20,000 people and plans to install stages, tents, and medical support.
